Chorley – charity shops and pie shops

Next time you go up north of Manchester forget the Trafford Centre, forget Tesco, forget Ikea. Instead turn your nose towards Chorley.

I visited Chorley for the first time after Christmas with my darling Sister-in-law who very apologetically stated that Chorley was mostly charity shops and pie shops.
My reaction was – Yes! What more do you need? I stepped in for a meat and potato pie and we were off.

What a catch! I had been eyeing up my Mother-in-law’s red pudding glasses all Christmas. I love coloured glass. In the first shop I found 6 small liquor glasses in different colours. In another I found a big box of plated spoons – Success! I have not found that down South yet. It’s all stainless steel.

I also stumbled upon this book with coloured images of plants. I needed something like this for a plan I have with an old garden bench I found at the skip a couple of years ago. I am going to decoupage the seat with flowers. This is a project I am really looking forward to, but I think it will have to wait till the summer as it is an outdoors project.

How about you? Do you also have a favoured thrift shop area that everyone else seems to disregard? I would love to hear about it over on my blog Grey Duckling (but beware - I might visit it too!)
