Doll Coat Rack???

One of my all time thrifting hope-to-finds is a traditional style coat rack. It hasn't happened for me yet, but what I did find recently, is what I assume to be a coat rack for a dollhouse. It was dinged and scratched, and shiny brass, but I knew with a little spray paint it would be better. As you can see, I went with black, but I think it could see a more colorful future.

I didn't know how I would use it at first, but I threw it in the cart anyway. (Couldn't let it be snatched up by someone else!) Then it came to me, and - for $1.50 (thanks half off day!) I had a keychain holder that helps me remember where I put my keys, because I get a kick out of using it.

Does anyone know what its original use was?

And bonus! The wallpaper I used for the backdrop is vintage Laura Ashley from a local Goodwill.
